The Westside Music Foundation (WMF) is a non-profit public charity committed to the promotion of music education and to community service. The profits generated from the 2008 Practice-A-Thon will be used to:

1) continue support of the newly established instrumental music program at St. Anne School, a Title I school (kindergarten-8th grade; total enrollment of approx. 225 students) in Santa Monica with more than 70% of its students qualifying for the Federal Free Lunch Program (family income at or below 130% of the federal poverty level).

2) establish a solo recital and chamber music series for the West Los Angeles community that would feature world-class musicians in a public venue with free admission for children, students, and adults.

There are many wonderful things about this practicing project: any and every student can participate, students learn the importance of charity work, and it encourages a sense of community within our studios.  It is our duty and responsibility, as musicians and teachers, to cultivate future audiences; and what is more effective than a hands-on musical experience?!

Best of all, our students will be practicing music to raise funds for children to whom music making is a luxury.

The newly established St. Anne School instrumental program, made possible largely through the $3,000+ raised in the 2007 Practice-A-Thon, now includes Orff-Schulwerk (hand percussion, mallet instruments, singing) instruction for grades 1, 2, and 3; recorder and music theory instruction for grades 4 and 5; and acoustic guitar instruction for grades 6, 7, and 8.  We would love to add an after-school violin and piano/keyboard program.  Please help us give the gift of music to children in the local community. Participating Practice-A-Thon students in will have the unique opportunity of seeing the creation of a music program come to life, first hand, as well as the unique opportunity of volunteering as music classroom aides, interns, and mentors at St. Anne School.
